China, 25 June 2026 - Smartphone manufacturer TECNO Mobile has unveiled expanded capabilities for its EllaClaw artificial intelligence platform, positioning the technology as a practical digital assistant capable of performing real-world tasks beyond traditional chatbot functions.
The latest upgrade marks a significant step in the evolution of so-called "agentic AI", artificial intelligence systems designed not only to answer questions but also to take actions, manage tasks, and interact across multiple applications on behalf of users.
According to TECNO, the enhanced EllaClaw platform is designed to help users manage everyday smartphone functions, optimize device performance, and execute tasks across different digital services while maintaining user oversight and security controls.
"Our goal is to create AI that helps simplify everyday tasks, reduce friction and make advanced experiences more accessible, while ensuring transparency and user control remain central to the experience," said Jack Guo during the announcement.
Unlike conventional voice assistants that primarily respond to commands, EllaClaw is designed to function as a cloud-based AI agent capable of understanding user intent and completing multi-step tasks.
The platform can assist users with system optimization functions such as freeing memory, monitoring battery consumption, managing mobile data usage, and improving device performance. It can also provide personalized reminders, organize schedules, and support travel planning by integrating information from calendars, weather forecasts, and other applications.
TECNO says the AI agent follows a "confirmation-first" approach, requiring user approval before carrying out sensitive actions or major system changes.
Among the new features introduced are Smart CleanUp Boost, which helps resolve device lag by freeing processing resources, Smart Power Drain Check for identifying battery-intensive applications, and Smart Data Guardian, which helps users monitor and manage mobile data consumption.
The development reflects TECNO's broader strategy of making advanced AI technologies accessible to users in emerging markets, where smartphones often serve as the primary gateway to digital services.
For many users across Africa, mobile devices are increasingly being used for work, education, financial services, communication, and content creation. AI systems capable of automating routine tasks could help improve productivity and reduce the complexity of managing multiple applications.
