Kenya, June 30, 2026 - Political activist-turned-politician Morara Kebaso has abandoned his own political party in favour of Jubilee, saying the move is a strategic decision driven by political realities ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The INJECT Party leader confirmed that he has joined the Jubilee Party, which has become the political vehicle associated with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i's presidential bid.
"The INJECT Party will remain on the shelf. At the moment, we are working with the party of Chairman Fred Matiang'i, which is the Jubilee Party," Kebaso said during an interview on a local television station.
Asked whether he had officially joined Jubilee, he responded: "Yes, yes, yes. We have to go with the realities of the politics of the day."
Kebaso said the decision reflects the political landscape in the Gusii region, where he intends to contest the Borabu parliamentary seat in 2027.
According to him, introducing a new political party in the region would make it difficult for voters to focus on the ideas being presented.
"In Borabu, Nyamira County and the larger Gusii region, people are accustomed to Jubilee. If you introduce another party, they may not even listen to what you have to say," he said.
He argued that political branding should not become a barrier to public service.
"You don't want to make people emotional because they won't even listen to the good message that you have or give you an opportunity to serve them," Kebaso added.
The activist, who rose to national prominence during the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests through his "Vampire Diaries" campaign exposing stalled government projects, said politics requires leaders to build alliances, even with people they once disagreed with.
"Leaders fight and then they agree. The politics of the day is that people have to work together to achieve a national goal. We don't keep grudges," he said.
