ANKARA — The Turkish Foreign Affairs Ministry congratulated Somalia on Independence and Unity Day, calling it a “friendly and brotherly” nation.
“We congratulate friendly and brotherly Somalia on the occasion of its National Day,” the ministry said, highlighting the close ties between Türkiye and Somalia.
Somalia celebrates its National Day on July 1, a date that symbolizes the country’s independence and the unification that took place in 1960. The day is observed as a symbol of Somali sovereignty, unity and national identity.
Türkiye and Somalia have maintained strong diplomatic and development relations for many years. Turkish officials have repeatedly emphasized their support for Somalia’s stability, sovereignty and development, while bilateral relations gained significant momentum following Türkiye’s high-level engagement in Somalia in 2011.
